Ruhullah Mehdi Criticizes Government’s Handling of J&K Post Article 370 Abrogation

Kashmir: Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, a member of Parliament, has voiced strong criticism of the Indian government’s claims about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir following the abrogation of Article 370. Speaking at the National Conference office in Ganderbal during his first visit since being elected, Mehdi condemned the recent terrorist attack in Kathua, emphasizing the profound impact on the families of the martyred soldiers.

Addressing the media, Ruhullah Mehdi argued that the terrorist attacks in Kathua and other parts of the Kashmir Valley contradict the Prime Minister’s assertions that peace has been established in the region. “The recent incidents of violence highlight that the promises of tranquility and normalcy post-Article 370 abrogation are far from reality,” Mehdi stated.

He urged the Government of India to reassess the current situation in Jammu and Kashmir and to reopen channels of dialogue with the local populace. “Winning the hearts of the people is essential to curb terrorism and foster peace,” he emphasized.

Mehdi also suggested that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) might exploit the ongoing unrest to delay the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. “The existing instability could be used as a pretext to defer the democratic process, which is concerning,” he remarked.

Ruhullah Mehdi’s comments come at a critical juncture, as the region continues to grapple with security challenges and political uncertainties. His call for a renewed dialogue and a strategic approach to peace-building underscores the complexities of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
