Elon Musk’s Tesla, the world’s leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has officially launched its operations in India. The company opened its first showroom, Tesla Experience Center, today in Mumbai’s upscale Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). During the inauguration ceremony, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis greeted Tesla with great accolades. According to him, “Tesla has arrived in the right city and state, that is the state of Maharashtra and the city of Mumbai, which is the entrepreneur capital of India.”

He underscored that Tesla’s coming to India is not merely a business decision but a representation of innovation and sustainability. “Tesla is going to change the entire market. Sure that the people of Mumbai and entire India will love tesla. Tesla is not just a car company, it is all about design, innovation and sustainability,” he said.
Peeking into the future, the Chief Minister also had hopes of local manufacturing and research, “I wish to see the R&D and manufacturing done here in the future.”
Tesla Model Y Debut in India
Tesla is launching the updated Model Y for Indian buyers. This handsome electric SUV comes in dark grey, with black alloy wheels and a coupe-like profile. The Indian market will get two versions of the Model Y:
- Long Range RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive)
- Long Range AWD (All-Wheel Drive)
The inside has a dual-tone black and white cabin, following Tesla’s signature no-frills style. The 15.4-inch central touchscreen is flanked by high-end technology features such as:
- Wireless charging of smartphones
- USB-C ports
- Internet access
- Voice command feature
- App-based vehicle access and control
The Model Y in India is estimated to have a starting price over Rs 60 lakh, positioning it as a premium product geared toward early adopters of EVs and luxury consumers.
