Replica of Statue of Liberty Built by Locals in Punjab Goes Viral

The internet is always abuzz with a mix of significant and bizarre updates, and a recent video from Tarn Taran in Punjab has captivated online audiences with its unusual spectacle. In this viral video, a replica of the Statue of Liberty is being placed atop an under-construction building in a local village, drawing both amusement and curiosity.

The video, shared by social media user Alok Jain on X (formerly Twitter), has amassed over 120,000 views. It shows locals carefully positioning the replica of the iconic American monument on the rooftop of the building, with a crane visible nearby, presumably used to lift the grand structure into place.

The unusual construction has sparked a wave of hilarious reactions from social media users. One user commented, “Must be a water tank. You will find airplanes, SUVs, and all sorts of shaped water tanks in Punjab.” Another user, referencing Punjab’s significant diaspora in Canada, quipped, “Ideally, they should have built Niagara Falls so that Canada is not missed.” A third user joked, “Now people can visit this house to see the Statue of Liberty, no need to fly to New York.”

This quirky construction is not an isolated incident in Punjab. Earlier in March, an NRI named Dalbir Singh, who resides in Canada, built a replica of the Statue of Liberty on the roof of a house in Jalandhar district. Such unique architectural choices have become somewhat of a trend in India.

There have been other notable instances of extravagant constructions inspired by famous landmarks. In 2023, a businessman from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, built a mini Taj Mahal memorial house for his late mother in Ammaiyappan near Tiruvarur. The project, which cost ₹5 crores, garnered significant attention. Similarly, in 2021, a man from Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, gifted his wife a home resembling the Taj Mahal, a labor of love that took nearly three years to complete.

These peculiar yet fascinating constructions continue to capture the imagination of people worldwide, reflecting a blend of cultural admiration and the unique personal stories behind each project. As these stories go viral, they highlight the diverse and ever-evolving landscape of internet content, from educational and serious to whimsical and humorous.
