The national capital of India, Delhi, witnessed a high-security alert after a blast rocked the area near the historic Red Fort on 10 November 2025. On Wednesday, November 12, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced the temporary closing of Lal Quila Metro Station.

This decision was made only for security concerns, and the station will not reopen until authorities give an all-clear. All other stations on the large metro network continue as usual, but the closure reflects the gravity of the ongoing investigation.

Red Fort Blast

This security alert comes after a horrific explosion on Monday evening, which occurred just two days in the past. A powerful explosion inside a car parked by the side of a busy road opposite Red Fort, or Lal Quila Metro Station, caused shock and devastation when it went off. At least 13 people have lost their lives, and several more are injured.

Security agencies, including the National Investigation Agency, readily took over the probe, treating it as an act of terror.

Investigators sealed off the blast site, in a densely populated and historically important area, and began to trace back every important detail of the attack.

Red Fort Blast: Cities on Red Alert

A high alert was issued not only for Delhi but also for a number of major cities and states across India following the deadly explosion in the national capital.

Authorities in a number of neighboring states, including Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, besides major metros like Mumbai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad, immediately strengthened their security.

Security has been tightened up at critical locations, which include airports, railway stations, bus terminals, and crowded marketplaces.

Extended checks are on, and the elements of security forces are monitoring every suspicious activity to avoid any further incidents.

Has DMRC ever closed services before?

While the whole Delhi Metro system seldom shuts down, the DMRC has closed individual station gates or even entire stations on a number of occasions in the past for security reasons.

These are usually during major national events, protests involving large numbers, or because of a sudden perceived threat in an area.

A closure of this nature for a station like Lal Quila, being a busy stop near a major monument, would thus be highly precautionary to ensure that the security teams can go about their work unhampered and that the heightened risk post-blast is managed accordingly.
