
Heavy rains continue across Maharashtra, with red alerts in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad. Seven deaths reported; schools closed as CM urges precautions amid forecasts of more downpour.
Maharashtra has been facing relentless attacks in several parts, including Mumbai and its suburbs, disrupting traffic. The water level of rivers is approaching the danger mark. The Mithi river's water level has risen to 3.10 meters, only 4 meters below the danger mark. A Red Alert has been issued for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad. Several other areas are under Orange Alert.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted 'very heavy to extremely heavy' rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs on Tuesday. The winds are predicted to flow at 45-55 kmph.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, insisted people to remain cautious. He cites the possibility of high tides and heavy showers. “In the last 2 days, Maharashtra has received widespread rainfall.
Red Alert and Orange Alert have been issued for several districts. Even for the next three days, until 21st August, half of the districts in Maharashtra have either Red Alert or Orange Alert. We discussed the precautions that need to be taken due to this,” Fadnavis was quoted as saying by PTI.

At least seven people have lost their lives due to the heavy rain in Mumbai until now. More than 200 villagers were left stranded in Nanded district after floodwaters entered their homes. A rescue operation is underway to evacuate people to safer locations.
The state government has ordered a holiday for schools and colleges, and anganwadi centres in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg on August 19.
The authorities have stepped in to ensure the safety of the public. The forecast predicts heavy downpour until August 21.
