Rameshwaram Cafe Blast: NIA team arrests 2 suspects including key accused from Kolkata

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced on Friday that the person who planted the IED at the Rameshwaram cafe in Bengaluru, Karnataka, and another person who was designated as the “mastermind” had been arrested near to Kolkata in West Bengal.

The names of the detained suspects are Mussavir Hussain Shazeb and Adbul Matheen Taha.
After their hiding place was verified, a team was sent to Kolkata, where they were taken into custody.

The investigating agency named Abdul Matheen Taahaa as a co-conspirator and one Mussavir Hussain Shazib as the main suspect who carried out the explosion last week.

“On early morning hours of April 12, 2024, the NIA were successful in tracing the absconding accused near Kolkata where they were hiding with their false identities. This pursuit, successfully accomplished by NIA was ably supported by energetic co-ordinated action and co-operation among the agency, Central Intelligence agencies and the West Bengal, Telengana, Karnataka and Kerala police,” said the NIA.

Nine people were hurt in the Rameshwaram Cafe explosion that happened on March 1 in Bengaluru, Karnataka’s Whitefield neighbourhood.

On March 3, the case was taken up by the NIA. Later, video surfaced that appeared to show the main suspect wandering around a bus terminal on the day of the explosion. After the incident, the suspect changed clothes and took a bus to several destinations, as reported by the investigating team.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced on March 6 that information leading to the arrest of the suspected “bomber” in the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case in Bengaluru, Karnataka, would be eligible for a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh.
