Rajasthan Assembly Polls: Jaipur’s Palawala Jatan Village Takes Stand, Boycotts Elections

Villagers in Palawala Jatan, Rajasthan, have chosen to boycott the ongoing elections to express their discontent with local public representatives. The boycott is a form of protest against the lack of connectivity between Palawala Jatan and Tunga. Not a single villager has turned up to vote at polling booth number 155, with the boycott continuing throughout the day.

This is not the first time that the villagers of Palawala Jatan have opted for a boycott; they have done so in the last seven elections as well. The decision to boycott is rooted in their frustration with the state government’s indifference, official apathy, and the perceived inaction of public representatives in addressing their concerns.

In visuals from the deserted polling booth, SDM, ACP Fulchand Meena, and the police force can be seen present. The villagers’ protest highlights the challenges faced by local communities and their efforts to draw attention to their demands through electoral boycotts.

Rajasthan recorded 40.27% polling for 199 assembly constituencies until 1:30 pm, according to information from the Election Commission. The ongoing elections have witnessed active campaigning by major political parties, with the ruling Congress seeking another term and the BJP aiming to replace the Ashok Gehlot government. Prominent candidates include Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, former CM Vasundhara Raje, former Deputy CM Sachin Pilot, and Union Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore.
