Rain Alert: Chennai and Surrounding Districts Braced for Light to Moderate Rainfall in Next 3 Hours

The Meteorological Department in Chennai has issued a rain alert for the city and surrounding districts, including Cuddalore. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre’s nowcast warning on Saturday, light to moderate spells of rain are expected at isolated places in various districts of Tamil Nadu within the next three hours.

The alert specifies that moderate rain is likely at isolated spots in Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, and Karaikal. Additionally, light rain is expected at isolated places in Thiruvallur, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Viluppuram, Nilgiris, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhnagar, Thirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, and Puducherry.

This comes in the wake of Cyclone Michaung’s impact on the region a week ago, prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assure support for Tamil Nadu. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was deputed to assess the flood situation, and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin sought urgent financial support from the Union government to address the challenges faced by the state.

The joint efforts of the state and central governments have led to a massive rescue and relief operation in response to the cyclone and flooding. The recent rain alert emphasizes the need for continued vigilance and preparedness in the affected regions. As the state copes with the aftermath, this proactive approach aims to mitigate the impact on residents and facilitate a swift recovery.
