New Delhi, Aug 3: With the assembly election n Uttar Pradesh scheduled next year, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will hold the twice-deferred ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme in Prayagraj on August 8.
In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi shared the schedule of his ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme.v
In a post in Hindi, the former Congress chief wrote, “If you don’t get a job, the throne will shake.”
After Kota, after Dehradun, now ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ is reaching Prayagraj, he said.
“This is the city (Prayagraj) where lakhs of young people have been preparing for years filling forms, paying fees, and waiting endlessly. The paper leak has snatched their today. Stalled recruitments have taken their tomorrow. And just a few days ago, in Delhi, these very children were beaten with batons and pellet guns – simply because they spoke up for their rights,” he said.
“We will keep raising their voice and will ensure they get justice. No more excuses -take responsibility, or vacate the chair. August 8 – see you in Prayagraj” he said.
Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to address the second edition of the Congress’s nationwide campaign against paper leaks, delays in regularising education costs, fair exams and recruitment irregularities after launching it in Kota on June 17.
The programme in Prayagraj was earlier fixed for July 10, but was rescheduled to July 19 before it was postponed again.
Party insiders said that it had deferred Rahul Gandhi’s visit for a second time as the issue of Ayodhya temple donation row was on its peak and expectations were high of him speaking on the issue.
And thus, his schedule for Dehradun was made, the insider pointed out.
The programme in Uttar Pradesh holds prominence as the Congress intends to make inroads into the youth vote as the government was pushed on the backfoot over the issue of NEET UG paper leak leading to the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The Congress is eyeing to win the youth votes as Rahul Gandhi had led from the front on the issue of paper leaks and police excesses on students during the July 20 protest. The party is looking to make paper leaks a big issue in next year assembly polls and sources indicating that over 1.5 lakh students registering themselves for the Gandhi scion programme.
