Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, seems to have played a wrong card once again by raising the issue of national security in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The Congress also appears isolated on this issue. Moreover, the weakness of the Congress’s floor managers was exposed. K.C. Venugopal repeatedly getting up from his seat and going to Rahul Gandhi also seemed like a wrong strategy. Because of this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also reprimanded him.
Controversy erupted when during the motion of thanks on the President’s address, when Rahul Gandhi started speaking, he began reading excerpts from a book by former Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane, which was to be published in a magazine in Delhi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly objected. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present in the House at that time. Rajnath Singh asked when and where the book was published.
In fact, the book had not yet been published. The court had stayed its publication. The magazine that Rahul mentioned was not a major publication that could be considered a reliable source. But Rahul Gandhi did not stop, and a commotion ensued in the House.
Akhilesh Yadav of the SP did call the matter serious, but also spoke about the seriousness of the China issue. The SP has always supported the government’s foreign policy, especially on the China issue. But Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has always questioned the government’s foreign policy.
Other opposition parties also did not show any interest in Rahul’s issue. The Congress handled the matter alone.
