Rahul Gandhi sent reply to breach of privilege notice: Congress leaders

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday sent his reply to a breach of privilege notice regarding his comments on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as informed by Congress sources.

The notice was issued to Rahul Gandhi for making unparliamentary remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi while he was speaking in the Lok Sabha. In the aftermath of the Hindenburg Research report on the Adani Group, Rahul accused PM Modi. Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla saying that Rahul Gandhi accused PM Modi without any documentary proof.

Several Congress leaders noted that Gandhi sent his reply, which has been scrutinised by the in-house legal experts. As per the Lok Sabha officials, Gandhi’s reply will be checked by the privileges section of the secretariat, and then it will be forwarded to the Lok Sabha Speaker’s office for proper action.

The Congress leader said that the contents of the letter are confidential; Gandhi touched on all the allegations and replied as per the facts with examples. The deadline for responding to the privilege notice was February 15.

In his complaint, Pralhad Joshi stated that Rahul Gandhi should have assured the House that he would have to provide documentary evidence to his allegations, but he did not. Rahul’s comments were expunged earlier this week.
