Rahul Gandhi Faces Legal Complaint For ‘Intimidation And Grievous Hurt’ To BJP MPs: Sources

The Delhi Police on Thursday filed an FIR against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following a complaint by BJP MP Hemang Joshi, sources said. The complaint accused Gandhi of “physical assault and incitement” during a clash in the Parliament premises.

The FIR cites provisions under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (causing grievous hurt), 125 (endangering life or safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3(5) (common intent to commit crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as per sources.

PARLIAMENTARY CLASH OVER AMBEDKAR REMARKS

The conflict stemmed from remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Dr. BR Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, which led to outrage among Congress leaders. Protests ensued both inside and outside Parliament on Wednesday and Thursday, with tensions escalating into physical confrontations.

On Thursday, BJP MPs Hemang Joshi, Anurag Thakur, and Bansuri Swaraj filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi at the Parliament Street Police Station. Joshi alleged, “At around 10 am, I, along with Mukesh Rajput ji, Pratap Rao Sarangi ji, and other NDA MPs, were peacefully protesting.” He claimed that Gandhi forcefully approached the demonstrators around 10:40 am, ignoring security warnings and endangering their safety.

Joshi also accused Gandhi and opposition members of inciting violence, resulting in injuries. “Mukesh Rajput sustained a severe injury to the back of his head, and Sarangi was hurt on his forehead,” Joshi stated.

BJP leader Anurag Thakur demanded a detailed investigation, citing additional charges, including 109 (attempt to murder) and 131 (use of criminal force). Thakur also accused Gandhi of misconduct toward a female BJP MP from Nagaland.

CONGRESS DENIES ALLEGATIONS

The Congress has refuted the claims, alleging that BJP MPs pushed party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and “physically manhandled” Rahul Gandhi. A Congress delegation, including Digvijaya Singh and Mukul Wasnik, filed a counter-complaint against BJP MPs and urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to investigate the incident.
