Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, has embarked on a significant initiative to illuminate Delhi’s iconic monument, Qutub Minar, in pink to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

Historic structure will stand as a powerful symbol

For three days, from 4th to 6th October in the evening, the historic structure will stand as a powerful symbol, shining a light on the importance of timely screening, early detection, and effective diagnosis of breast cancer. This initiative not only highlights the urgency of combating breast cancer but also sends a message of hope, survival, and courage to those who have bravely fought the disease. It serves as a reminder for women, especially those over 40, of the critical need to undergo annual mammograms for early detection, which can dramatically improve outcomes.

Speaking about this initiative, Dr Vedant Kabra, Principal Director, Department of Surgical Oncology, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram said , “Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Indian women, accounting for over 25% of all female cancers. While it was once predominantly diagnosed in women between the ages of 50 and 64, alarming trends over the past decade show that younger women, even in their 20s and 30s, are now increasingly being diagnosed with advanced stages of the disease. Early screening, therefore, is more important than ever.”

Mr. Yash Rawat, Facility Director, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, said , “Qutub Minar, illuminated in pink, is not just a visual tribute. It stands as a beacon of awareness, urging women to prioritize their health through regular screenings. Through this initiative, we aim to inspire collective action towards breast cancer prevention and detection, and ultimately, save lives.”

The illumination of Qutub Minar will create a striking visual impact, reinforcing Fortis Healthcare’s commitment to raising awareness, supporting survivors, and promoting breast cancer education. By drawing attention to the rising incidence of breast cancer in India, Fortis hopes to encourage women and their families to take proactive steps in the fight against this disease. Through initiatives like this, Fortis remains committed to empowering women with knowledge, advocating for early detection, and ensuring access to world-class healthcare.
