On Friday, the Punjab Police conducted large-scale raids across the state, mobilizing a force of 3,000 personnel to target individuals with criminal backgrounds and involvement in anti-social activities. These raids were conducted under the instructions of Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav.
Special DGP (law and order) Arpit Shukla emphasized that the operation was carried out with precise coordination throughout the day. All police commissioners and senior superintendents of police were instructed to assign at least one police team, led by officers under the rank of Sub-Inspector (SI), per police station. Their primary objective was to locate and track the individuals in question.
According to the Special DGP, a comprehensive operation was undertaken with a total of 450 police teams, consisting of over 3,000 police officers. These teams conducted raids at the residences of approximately 4,171 individuals with criminal records. The main objective of this operation was to ascertain the whereabouts of these individuals and determine if they had reintegrated into society. The operation aimed to gather relevant information about their current status and activities.
The Special DGP further explained that as part of the operation, the police conducted inquiries with the family members of the targeted individuals. They sought information about the properties owned by them and examined any potential bank transactions involving foreign sources. Additionally, the police meticulously inspected vehicles present at their residences, cross-verifying the registration numbers using the VAHAN mobile application. These measures were taken to gather comprehensive details and ensure a thorough investigation into the individuals’ backgrounds and activities.
