A man from Moga was allegedly trafficked to Myanmar after being lured with a job offer in Thailand and was later rescued by the Thai army, police said on Thursday. A case has been registered against the accused, and investigations are underway to trace the wider trafficking network.
The victim ,Rakesh Kumar of Suraj Nagar ,Moga, told police he was promised a monthly salary of Rs 70,000–65,000 for a job in Thailand .Acting on the offer ,he left India on8 August 2025 from Amritsar International Airport and reached Bangkok .He alleged that instead of being employed legitimately, agents took him through forest routes and forcibly moved him into Myanmar.
Kumar claimed that once in Myanmar ,he was forced to work against his will .When he refused, the accused ,Glory Masih of Partap Pura ,Jalandhar, allegedly demanded Rs5 lakh to send him back to India .Fearing harm ,he continued working under pressure.
During this period ,Kumar was reportedly made to use online applications to communicate with people of Asian origin living in the United States ,suggesting his coerced involvement in cyber fraud.
He was rescued by the Thai army during a crackdown and later returned to India ,where he lodged a complaint at the Moga Cyber Crime Police Station.
Police have registered a case under Sections,)1(143 ,146 ,)2(143and )4(318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita .Officials said efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused ,identify other members of the racket ,and examine the financial and cybercrime links connected to the case.
