Punjab Chief Minister’s anti-corruption drive: 300 arrested

Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann, revealed on Wednesday that more than 300 officers and officials have been apprehended on charges of corruption within a year of the launch of the state’s anti-corruption helpline. In a video message, Chief Minister Mann expressed his commitment to providing clean, transparent, and responsive governance to the people of Punjab.

Since assuming office, the Punjab government has maintained a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, ensuring swift action against those involved in illicit practices. Chief Minister Mann took pride in the success of the anti-corruption helpline, which was launched precisely one year ago and has yielded significant results.

The helpline, reachable at 9501200200, allows citizens to report incidents of corruption by uploading videos showcasing officials soliciting bribes or engaging in other forms of malpractice. Based on the WhatsApp complaints received through this platform, the state government has successfully apprehended over 300 corrupt officers and officials.
Chief Minister Mann emphasised that the anti-corruption helpline was implemented as part of the government’s commitment to delivering a corruption-free, transparent, and clean administration. The initiative serves as a means for citizens to actively participate in the fight against corruption, holding public servants accountable for their actions.
In response to the Chief Minister’s announcement, the Shiromani Akali Dal party questioned the selective application of the zero-tolerance policy, specifically raising concerns about alleged corruption among AAP ministers and legislators.
