Punjab BJP Chief criticises CM over flood management failures

BJP’s Punjab leader, Sunil Jakhar, has publicly criticised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, accusing him of mishandling the recent flood situation in the state and neglecting to utilise a federal relief fund of Rs 218 crore.
Jakhar, who visited the flood-stricken areas of Sanour, Patiala alongside Jai Inder Kaur, daughter of former chief minister Amarinder Singh, addressed the media about the poor management of the flood crisis. He blamed the AAP government’s negligence and inefficiency for the loss of life and property endured by Punjab’s residents.
Jakhar further lambasted the government for failing to implement necessary preventive measures, including clearing drains and reinforcing embankments, thereby exacerbating the flood situation. He questioned when the AAP government plans to conduct a special survey, or girdawari, to assess the damage and compensate the affected individuals.
In addition, Jakhar challenged the Chief Minister to explain the failures and called out the Congress for yielding to AAP, leaving the BJP to assume the opposition’s role in Punjab.
The intense rainfall recently experienced in Punjab and Haryana has wreaked havoc, disrupting normal life and inundating extensive residential and agricultural areas.
