On Monday morning in Jalandhar, the lifeless bodies of three daughters belonging to a migrant laborer were discovered in their residence. The girls, aged between four and nine years, were found inside an iron trunk during a house search in the Maqsudan area of Jalandhar.
The three missing children, identified as Amrita Kumari (9), Shakti Kumari (7), and Kanchan Kumari (4), had been reported missing since the previous Sunday evening. Their parents initiated a search for them at 8:15 pm on that day and subsequently alerted the authorities at 11 pm, leading to the registration of a police case.
Jalandhar Superintendent of police Manpreet Singh said the matter is under investigation and neighbors of the family are being questioned.
“The three sisters seem to have hidden themselves in the trunk while playing. The angular locks of the trunk got locked immediately and they died of suffocation,” he further added.
Throughout the night, the police conducted searches in the vicinity and gathered statements from family members, who reported that the girls had been playing unsupervised at home on Sunday. It was only on Monday morning that the decision was made to conduct a search of the house, where the tragic discovery was made.
“The bodies have been sent for post-mortem. There were no injury marks on the bodies. We are working on all angles before ruling out foul play,” Singh said.
