Pulwama Attack Anniversary: PM Modi Pays Tribute, Calls Martyrs’ Sacrifice Unforgettable

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to martyrs of the Pulwama attack. 40 CRPF personnel were martyrs in the 2019 Pulwama attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Paying homage to the martyred soldiers, PM Modi tweeted on social media platform X, “Homage to the courageous heroes we lost in Pulwama in 2019. The coming generations will never forget their sacrifice and their unwavering dedication to the nation.”

Amit Shah Terms the Attack a ‘Cowardly Act of Terrorism’

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid tribute to the martyrs, terming the attack an act of terrorism. In an X post, he said, “On behalf of the grateful nation, I pay my heartfelt tribute to the soldiers who were martyred in the cowardly terrorist attack in Pulwama on this day in the year 2019.”

Shah renewed the government’s vow to fight terrorism, stating, “Terrorism is the biggest enemy of the entire human race, and the whole world has united against it. Be it a surgical strike or an airstrike, the Modi government is determined to completely destroy the terrorists by running a campaign with a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against them.”

Yogi Adityanath Pays Tribute to the Fallen Soldiers

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also offered his respects to the martyred CRPF jawans. In his X tribute, he posted, “Heartfelt tribute and salute to all the immortal brave soldiers martyred in the cowardly terrorist attack in Pulwama! The sacrifice of the brave sons of Mother India inspires us to fight unitedly against terrorism. Jai Hind.”

Remembering the Pulwama Attack and India’s Retaliation

On 14 February 2019, a suicide bomber drove an IED-packed vehicle into a CRPF convoy, killing 40 personnel. The Indian Air Force responded by conducting multiple air strikes against Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror camps in Balakot, Pakistan, on 26 February 2019. The operation killed a “large number” of terrorists and also destroyed their infrastructure.

Pakistan tried to retaliate the next day by attacking Indian military bases in Jammu and Kashmir. But their offensive was foiled by the Indian Air Force. In the air fight, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman pursued Pakistani aircraft in his MiG-21 Bison. He had entered Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, where his plane was destroyed, and he was arrested. India also shot down a Pakistani fighter aircraft in the encounter.

The country is still celebrating the courage and sacrifice of the Pulwama martyrs, once again upholding its position against terrorism.
