Pro-Khalistani extremists heckled External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar in London on Thursday. They even attempted to attack his car as he left an event hosted by Chatham House and the Indian High Commission.
Protesters Tear Indian Flag as Police Remain Unmoved
Meanwhile, a viral video shows a man running toward Jaishankar’s car and tearing the Indian flag. Surprisingly, London police officers stood nearby but did not intervene.
Earlier, pro-Khalistani protesters had gathered outside Chatham House before Jaishankar’s arrival. As soon as he entered the building, they started chanting slogans. Despite the protests, Jaishankar engaged in a discussion with Bronwen Maddox, Director of Chatham House. During the conversation, they explored topics such as India’s foreign policy, regional developments, and global economic challenges.
Khalistani elements attempted to attack and insult @DrSJaishankar by desecrating the Indian flag on British soil. This is a serious concern and raises questions about security lapses in London. #London #Khalistani @PMOIndia @HMOIndia @metpoliceuk @HCI_London pic.twitter.com/NUqR5d6Z7r

Extremism Likely to Be Key Topic in UK Talks
Currently, Jaishankar is in the UK for an official visit from March 4 to 9. Notably, he will meet British Foreign Secretary David Lammy for bilateral talks. Given Thursday’s incident, discussions will likely focus on extremism and the growing pro-Khalistani movement in the UK.
In recent years, the pro-Khalistani movement has expanded in the UK. As a result, Hindu temples and Indian institutions have faced multiple acts of vandalism. Nevertheless, Jaishankar’s visit also aims to strengthen trade, health, education, and defence ties between India and the UK.
Jaishankar’s Next Stop: Ireland
After concluding his UK visit, Jaishankar will travel to Ireland from March 6 to 7. There, he will meet Irish Foreign Minister Simon Harris. Additionally, he will engage with Indian officials and interact with the Indian diaspora.
