Private hospitals overcharging on radar in Haryana

Private hospitals overcharging for treatment from patients are on radar after Member of Parliament Kartikeya Sharma raised the issue stating that such private health institutions which continue to breach the norms should be subject to stern action. Charging arbitrary fees from patients in the name of treatment by private hospitals has become a common thing in Haryana.

Such incidents continues to surface across the state requiring the government to tighten the noose around the neck of the concerned private hospitals. The private hospitals which are negligent and overcharging the patients have come under scanner of the government. Pertaining to the issue, a senior official of the health department official said that in the last few years, a list of private hospitals which have put the lives of patients at stake for the greed of money is being prepared.

There are many big private hospitals in Panchkula where such incidents occurred consistently. In wake of this and following the complaints Speaker Gyan Chand Gupta himself had taken strong cognizance against the private hospitals in 2021. Several complaints had come to the notice against the private hospitals in Panchkula for overcharging from Covid patients. In continuation to this, Gupta apprised the Chief Minister Manohar Lal about the seriousness of the matter after which instructions were issued to two IAS officers. Pertaining to the issue, Kartikeya Sharma said that he will continue to raise the issue of arbitrariness of private hospitals and violation of patients’ rights. Private hospitals, which arbitrarily put the lives of patients at stake, need to be curbed with immediate effect so that they cannot exploit patients and their relatives in future. The government has also taken necessary steps in this direction, he added.
