Previous Delhi property owners can now buy DDA flats or plots in city

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) approved an amendment to its housing regulations. It allows people to buy DDA houses even if they previously owned any flat or plot anywhere in Delhi, as they were not allowed previously, said an official.
The meeting was chaired by Lieutenant Governor V. K. Saxena, along with the officers of the authority. In the meeting, DDA also approved the change of land use for the expansion of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and the allotment of 1.6 hectares in Sector-17 Dwarka for the construction of six state bhavans.
Officials said, as per DDA’s housing regulations, only a person with a plot of less than 67 square metres in the city was allowed to apply for the allotment of a newly constructed flat offered under DDA schemes.
“The previous regulations also allowed the purchase of flats in developing areas where more than 25% of the flats remained unsold for a long time. However, to provide an opportunity to all homebuyers to participate in DDA’s new housing schemes, the authority on Tuesday approved the amendment. He added, it was seen that the restrictions imposed earlier under the regulation had affected the sale of flats.
Another officer of the authority stated that this decision will lead to flats getting sold quickly, resulting in the recovery of capital, no maintenance expenses, and the depreciation of inventory. “They will send the approved proposal to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval and notification.”
DDA also approved the change of land use for three plots allotted to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, or RML Hospital, to further boost healthcare infrastructure.
