Preparations begin to legalize hemp cultivation in HP

There are preparations to legalize hemp cultivation in Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu said in the Assembly that the government has constituted a committee in this regard under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister, Jagat Singh Negi, which has visited Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.
The Chief Minister said that this committee also had to visit four countries in the month of July, where hemp is used industrially and medicinally. But due to the disaster, the committee could not go on a foreign tour. He said that soon the committee will go on a tour of four countries. Based on its report then hemp cultivation will be legalized.
The Chief Minister said that Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi will present his report in the House tomorrow for discussion. After discussing this, the legalization of hemp cultivation will be considered. Speaker Kuldeep Pathania said that permission has been given to table the report of the committee on hemp cultivation in the House.
When asked by the Leader of the Opposition, the Chief Minister said that hemp is currently being grown in four districts of the state, Chamba, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla. Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur said that when the committee visited the districts, different types of reactions were coming on social media. Right now the situation is alarming due to drug addiction. Due to this, there is a possibility of increasing the prevalence of drug addiction. On this, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu said that the decision on whether to make a law or not would be taken only after a detailed discussion in the House. This question was asked peacefully in the House by BJP MLA Vipin Singh Parmar.
