A political controversy has erupted in Bihar after the Congress's state unit shared an AI-generated video featuring PM Narendra Modi and his late mother, Heeraben Modi.
The video shows a dream sequence where PM Modi's mother scolded him for alleged political mistakes. BJP has responded strongly to this occurrence, sparking a heated political debate ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.
The AI-generated video was posted by the Bihar Congress on its official social media account on September 10, 2025. The video shows PM Modi going to bed after saying, “vote chori has completed for the day.”
In the dream, a woman resembling his late mother criticizes him for allegedly using her name for political gain. The video was captioned, “Maa appears in sahab’s dreams,” and aimed to provide satirical commentary on political ethics in Bihar.

The BJP quickly condemned the video, saying it insulted PM Modi’s late mother and disrespected women. National spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala called the video “disgusting” and accused Congress of turning from “Gandhiwadi to Gaaliwadi.”
He wrote on social media, “Far from having remorse for abusing the PM's mother, Congress not only justified defending the accused with lies. Tariq Anwar too defended. And now Bihar Congress crossed all limits with a disgusting video.”
Rajasthan BJP president Madan Rathore called the video “highly condemnable,” accusing Congress of using “cheap tactics” after losing political dominance. He said, “Sometimes they use indecent words in the name of (PM Modi’s) mother. Congress has done mimicry by uploading this video on its state handle, and this is highly condemnable.”

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari added, “On the instruction of Rahul Gandhi, the Congress party has mocked the honourable PM Narendra Modi’s late mother. A few days back, Congress had abused PM Narendra Modi’s late mother. Congress’s 'Shahi Parivar' is insulting mothers and sisters of Bharat.”
Congress leader Pawan Khera defended the video, saying it was political satire and not meant to disrespect anyone. He said, “Where is the disrespect shown to his late mother?
Show me one word, one gesture, anywhere where you see disrespect. It is the duty of parents to educate their children. She is only educating her child, and if the child thinks that it is disrespectful towards him, it is his headache, not mine, not yours.”
Khera also criticized the BJP for trying to gain sympathy and politicizing the issue. He said, “Why does the BJP try to make an issue out of everything and try to generate fake sympathy?”

The Congress party has started an internal probe to find out how the video was created and shared. The party has said it will take action if any wrongdoing is found.
This shows that even political satire has limits, and parties must be careful about how AI content is used.
This incident shows how AI is increasingly playing a role in politics, even humorous AI content presents ethical concerns, particularly when it features deceased people.
This controversy highlights the potential impact of digital media and AI on public opinion and political debate as Bihar prepares for assembly elections.
