PM Modi’s Dig: ‘Is EVM Dead or Alive?’ Provokes Opposition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a swipe at the opposition INDIA bloc, expressing his concern about the integrity of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) following the election results. He accused the opposition of attempting to undermine the Election Commission of India by blaming the EVMs.

During a meeting with newly elected MPs in Parliament, PM Modi recounted his reaction to the election results and the opposition’s earlier allegations regarding the EVMs. He stated, “When results were coming out on June 4, I was busy with work. Phone calls started coming in later. I asked someone, numbers are fine, tell me EVM zinda hai ki mar gaya (Is the EVM dead or alive).” He highlighted the opposition’s persistent criticism of the EVMs and their efforts to erode public trust in India’s democratic process.

PM Modi remarked on the opposition’s change in tone following the election results, noting, “But by the evening of June 4, unko taale lag gaye. EVM ne unko chup kar diya (EVM silenced them).” He emphasized the strength and fairness of India’s democracy and expressed hope that the issue of EVMs would not resurface for the next five years.

PM Modi also criticized the Congress party for its electoral performance, pointing out that it failed to reach the 100-seat mark even after a decade. He reiterated the trust placed in the NDA by the country’s citizens and pledged to fulfill their expectations.

Reflecting on the NDA’s coalition, PM Modi emphasized equality among all parties in Parliament and reiterated the alliance’s commitment to national interests. He praised the NDA’s legacy of good governance and thanked the alliance leaders for electing him as their leader.

PM Modi concluded by pledging to continue working towards consensus within the NDA, underscoring the alliance’s success and its focus on welfare and governance. He expressed gratitude to the NDA leaders for their support and announced his likely oath-taking ceremony on June 9.
