As Goa prepares for one of its biggest spiritual gatherings of the year, all eyes are on Partagali, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will unveil a towering 77-foot-tall bronze statue of Lord Ram. The statue, crafted by celebrated sculptor Ram V Sutar, is set to become one of the major cultural landmarks in the region.

The Prime Minister’s visit marks a key moment in the 550th-year celebration of Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math—an event attracting lakhs of devotees from across India.

Grand Celebration at Partagali Math

The Math, known as the first Gowd Saraswat Brahmin Vaishnava Math following the Dvaita philosophy of Jagadguru Madhvacharya, is hosting an 11-day celebration that began earlier this week. The spiritual institution stands on the banks of the Kushavati River in South Goa and holds immense religious and cultural value.

"More than 15,000 people are expected from all over India. PM will first visit Lord Ram's bronze statue, and address the people," said S Mukund Kamath, Joint Convenor of the Organising Committee.

Over the next 11 days, the Math is expecting a footfall of over 1.2 lakh devotees. The celebrations include cultural programs and devotional performances by renowned artists, including Shankar Mahadevan and Anup Jalota.

The 77-Foot Statue of Lord Ram: A New Spiritual Landmark

A major highlight of the event is the unveiling of the 77-foot-tall bronze statue of Lord Ram. Designed by Padma Bhushan awardee Ram V Sutar, the sculptor behind the Statue of Unity, the massive structure is set to become a powerful symbol of devotion and craftsmanship.

The statue has been designed to withstand weather conditions and is installed with precision to ensure longevity. Its height, posture, and intricate detailing reflect traditional interpretations of Lord Ram while aligning with Sutar’s signature monumental style.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the newly developed Ramayana Theme Park, which showcases episodes from the Ramayana through sculptures, installations, and interactive spaces created by the Math.

Along with these inaugurations, PM Modi will release a special postal stamp and a commemorative coin marking the Math’s historic 550th year.

PM Modi’s Visit to Udupi Earlier in the Day

Before traveling to Goa, PM Modi visited Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi, Karnataka. He participated in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme, where nearly 1,00,000 participants — including students, monks, and scholars — recited the Srimad Bhagavad Gita in unison.

The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa, located near the Krishna sanctum, and dedicated the Kanaka Kavacha, a golden cover for the sacred Kanakana Kindi.

Calling the event “special,” PM Modi expressed his excitement ahead of the programme.

"I am honoured to be visiting Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi to take part in the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana programme tomorrow, 28th November. This is a special gathering that brings together people from different sections of society for a recital of the Gita. This Matha has a very special significance in our cultural life. Inspired by Sri Madhvacharya, it has been at the forefront of serving society," he said in a post on X.

The Prime Minister also held a roadshow in Udupi before attending the spiritual programme.

PM Modi’s participation in two major spiritual events on the same day underscores the government’s efforts to highlight India’s ancient traditions and cultural roots. With the unveiling of the majestic statue of Lord Ram, Goa is set to gain a new symbol of devotion that will draw pilgrims for years to come.
