PM Modi to inaugurate ‘Greenfield Airport’ in Itanagar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to kick start his visit to 3 states; Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. PM Modi will also inaugurate Arunachal’s first “greenfield” airport.  A greenfield airport is one which is built on an undeveloped land.  After Tezu and Passighat, this will be Arunachal’s third airport and 16th airport for the northeast. In 2019, PM laid the foundation stone for the construction of Greenfield Airport at Hollongi and inaugurated retrofitted Tezu airport. The terminal at Hollongi is constructed approximately at a cost of Rs. 955 crore with an area of 4100 sq m and has a peak handling capacity of 200 passengers per hour.

“The airport terminal is a modern building, which promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy and the recycling of resources.Donyi Polo Airport will be the third operational airport for Arunachal Pradesh, taking the total airport count in the North-East region to 16. From 1947 to 2014, only nine airports were built in the North-East. In a short span of eight years since then, the Modi government has built seven airports in the North-East,” read an official statement.

Arunachal Pradesh’ CM Prema Khandu said that, Donyi Polo Airport would ensure seamless connectivity andimprove access to Itanagar, boosting the trade and tourism in the state. “It will have catalytic impact on the economy of our state,” he further added.     

 Following the inauguration, PM will visit is parliamentary constituency, Varanasi where he will Kashi Tamil Sangamam’.   He will then visit his poll bound home state Gujarat where elections are scheduled in two weeks.
