PM Modi reviews progress of schemes based on Independence Day speech

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a high-level review meeting to discuss the progress made on schemes to be implemented based on the Independence Day speech he gave this year. One of the announcements that PM Modi made mentioned empowering “2 crore Lakhpati didis” or helping 2 crore women engaged in Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Anganwadis become “lakhpatis”. The Prime Minister also took stock of the various livelihood interventions planned to achieve this target.

In his Independence Day speech, the PM spoke about equipping 15,000 women SHGs with drones for agriculture and related purposes. PM Modi received an overview of the plans to implement this, ranging from training of Women SHGs to monitoring activities. The Prime Minister also promised the increase of Jan Aushadhi Stores in India to 25,000 from the current number of 10,000 to increase the reach of affordable medicines, the progress of which was also discussed and reviewed during this meeting.
