PM Modi affirmed India won't compromise on farmers' interests after Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Indian exports, saying he's ready to face any economic consequences.
As the concerns regarding Donald Trump's tariff hikes grow, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday said that India will never compromise on farmers' interests, even if it means economic setbacks.
While discussing the issue at the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference, PM Modi said, "For us, the interest of our farmers is our top priority. India will never compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen and dairy farmers. I know we will have to pay a heavy price for it, and I am ready for it. India is ready for it.”
His stern remarks come after President Trump's recent decision to increase an additional 25% tariff on Indian products, a move that has raised fears of a potential trade conflict impacting key sectors.
