PM Modi Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi, marking his 155th birth anniversary.

In a post on X, PM Modi expressed heartfelt tributes to Gandhi, highlighting the enduring influence of Bapu’s principles of truth, harmony, and equality, which continue to inspire the nation. “On behalf of all countrymen, I salute Pujya Bapu on his birth anniversary. His life and ideals will forever inspire the people of India,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister also honored former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, stating, “Respectful tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who dedicated his life to the ‘jawan’, ‘kisan’, and ‘swabhiman’ of our country.”

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated annually to commemorate Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as the ‘Father of the Nation.’ This day is recognized as a national holiday, with the entire nation paying homage to Gandhi.

Born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Mahatma Gandhi was a leader of non-violent resistance in the struggle against British colonial rule, demonstrating remarkable patience, which ultimately contributed to India’s independence in 1947.

Lal Bahadur Shastri, born in 1904 in Uttar Pradesh, served as India’s second Prime Minister from 1964 to 1966. He passed away in Tashkent on January 11, 1966, shortly after signing the Tashkent Pact with Pakistan at the age of 61. A visionary leader, Shastri was deeply influenced by Gandhi’s political teachings and effectively communicated with the people, steering the nation towards progress.
