Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated a series of development projects worth ₹6,640 crore in Jamui, Bihar, coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of tribal leader Bhagwan Birsa Munda. He also unveiled a commemorative coin and postage stamp during the event.
Addressing a massive gathering, PM Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to tribal welfare, unveiling initiatives such as the *Dharti Aaba, Janjatiya Gram, and Utkarsh Abhiyan*, aimed at transforming over 60,000 tribal villages.
“The NDA government, under Atal Bihari Vajpayee, created a dedicated ministry for tribal welfare. Over the past decade, the tribal development budget has grown fivefold to ₹1.25 lakh crore. Under the new schemes, ₹80,000 crore will be invested to provide facilities, training, and employment opportunities for tribal communities,” Modi said.
Highlighting the government’s focus on healthcare, the Prime Minister mentioned a national campaign against sickle cell anemia that has already screened 4.5 crore individuals. Additionally, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are being established to offer accessible healthcare services to tribal families.
He lauded the tribal community’s contribution to India’s ancient medical practices, announcing efforts to preserve and expand this heritage for future generations. Modi also highlighted ongoing initiatives to build museums dedicated to tribal leaders and recognize their contributions through national awards.
PM Modi’s visit marked the commencement of the year-long *Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas* celebrations. In a symbolic gesture, he paid floral tributes to Birsa Munda, joined traditional dancers, and played a tribal drum during the event, receiving a warm welcome from the crowd.
The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to uplift marginalized communities while strengthening India’s tribal heritage and culture.
