
PM Modi Independence Day 2025 speech highlights GST ‘bahut bada tohfa’, defence, tech, clean energy, and self-reliance
India celebrated its 79th Independence Day on 15 August 2025 with pride and unity. From the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation with a message that blended history, defence, technology, economic reforms, and future vision and he paid tribute to leaders like Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, hailed the success of Operation Sindoor, and spoke on water diplomacy, energy progress, and space exploration. He announced advances in semiconductor manufacturing, youth-led industries, and women’s empowerment, and the address reflected the spirit of self-reliance, inclusive growth, and global leadership.
PM Modi honoured the sacrifices of freedom fighters who shaped the nation. He gave special tribute to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee for his role in national unity and integrity while he reminded citizens to draw inspiration from past leaders to guide the present and future.
The Prime Minister praised Operation Sindoor, a recent military mission that showcased India’s advanced defence capabilities and he stressed the country’s readiness to meet strategic challenges and its focus on modernising the armed forces.

PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to water security while upholding diplomatic responsibility also he underlined the importance of protecting national interests and maintaining international agreements on shared resources.
The speech marked India’s breakthrough in semiconductor manufacturing. PM Modi said “Made-in-India” chips will reduce imports and strengthen high-tech industries in defence, communication, and electronics.

PM Modi announced that India achieved 50% of its clean energy goals by 2025, well ahead of schedule and the government is expanding nuclear, solar, and wind energy to ensure sustainable growth and combat climate change.
The launch of Samundramanthan will explore deep-water gas and petroleum reserves. Coupled with critical mineral research, these efforts will secure India’s energy and resource needs.
India’s space programme continues to thrive also the Mangalyaan’s success and over 300 space startups reflect a strong ecosystem in space technology and research.
PM Modi announced the next generation of GST reforms to be rolled out by Diwali 2025, calling it a “bahut bada tohfa” for the people and the reforms will rationalise tax slabs, lower GST rates on essential goods, and boost household relief and consumption.
The Prime Minister highlighted UPI’s role in digital payments, fertilizer reforms to enhance agricultural productivity, and support for entrepreneurship, while he also praised women’s self-help groups for driving grassroots economic and social empowerment.
