Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Vantara, a huge wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation facility in the state of Gujarat, sheltering over 1.5 lakh rescued animals from over 2,000 species. The prime minister inspected the world-class veterinary facilities within the center and also spent time with various rescued animals while paying his visit.
In the state-of-the-art wildlife hospital, PM Modi observed the latest medical procedures, including MRI, CT scans, and ICU treatment of animals. He observed an Asiatic Lion being administered an MRI scan and a leopard undergoing surgery for life-saving intervention after getting injured in a highway accident. The hospital possesses specialized departments offering services in wildlife anesthesia, cardiology, nephrology, endoscopy, dentistry, and internal medicine.
PM Modi interacted with rescued animals during his visit, such as feeding Asiatic Lion cubs, a Clouded Leopard cub, which is very rare, and a White Lion cub born at the center. PM Modi also comprehended the Caracal breeding program, critical for the conservation of this endangered species.
He toured enclosures that replicate the natural habitats of the animals and met Golden Tigers, Snow Leopards, and four rescued Snow Tiger brothers from a circus. The prime minister also looked at chimpanzees, an Orangutan, crocodiles, a hippopotamus, and an Okapi that is rarely found, as well as rare creatures like a two-headed snake and a two-headed turtle.
PM Modi also paid a visit to the world’s largest elephant hospital, where he witnessed elephants being treated with hydrotherapy for arthritis and foot conditions. He also witnessed the rehabilitation of rescued parrots being set free in the wild.
He concluded his visit with interactions with Vantara’s dedicated staff and physicians, acknowledging their passion for wildlife conservation. The visit reconfirmed India’s dedication to the protection of endangered species and animal welfare.
