On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Kargil War Memorial in Drass and launched the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel project, which will connect Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh year-round. During his visit, Modi took the opportunity to criticize the opposition for their criticism of the Agnipath scheme, accusing them of trying to weaken the Army.
In his speech at Drass, Modi paid tribute to the soldiers who died in the Kargil War, saying, “The sacrifices made for the nation are immortal. The names of those who gave their lives for national security will forever be remembered.”
He also harshly criticized Pakistan, stating that it has not learned from its past mistakes and continues to engage in terrorism and proxy wars. Modi warned, “Our bravehearts will crush terrorism, and the enemy will get a fitting response.”
Modi further attacked the opposition for misleading the youth about the Agnipath scheme, claiming they do not care about soldiers. He accused them of lying about the One Rank One Pension scheme and failing to build a war memorial or provide adequate bulletproof jackets for soldiers. “These are the people who tried to weaken our army,” he said.
Additionally, Modi praised the development in Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir following the removal of Article 370. He noted the rapid growth in infrastructure and tourism, mentioning the reopening of a cinema hall in Kashmir and the first Tazia procession in Srinagar in over 35 years. “Our heaven on earth is moving towards peace and harmony,” he added.
