Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday referred to Makhana (fox nuts) as a superfood and highlighted its medicinal properties, divulging that he eats it for 300 days a year. Addressing a public rally in Bhagalpur, Bihar, the Prime Minister stressed the necessity of increasing world production and promotion of Makhana.

Before his address, supporters welcomed PM Modi with a Makhana garland to recognize Bihar’s significant role in its production. While Bihar produces nearly 80% of India’s Makhana supply, it has never successfully capitalized on the growing global demand.

Makhana as Superfood

Makhana has turned into a breakfast staple in cities all over the country today. I consume Makhana for 300 days out of 365 days. It is a superfood,” PM Modi stated, underlining its popularity.

Reiterating the Centre’s pledge to the development of the Makhana industry, he noted the Union Budget announcement of a Makhana Board in Bihar to step up production, processing, value addition, and marketing.
