Bengaluru is set to witness a big leap in its transport network today as Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives to inaugurate the long-awaited Yellow Line Metro, a crucial link that will finally connect Electronics City to the city’s metro grid. The event, scheduled for 10 a.m., will also see the launch of the Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat Express.
Authorities have made large-scale preparations for the high-profile visit. The Bengaluru Traffic Police have released detailed advisories to ensure smooth vehicle movement around the event venues. After the official flag-off, PM Modi is expected to address residents and highlight the importance of the new infrastructure.
The Yellow Line is being described as a “game-changer” for southern Bengaluru, particularly for regions where rapid housing growth and industrial expansion have long outpaced public transport. It will connect major residential areas, technology hubs, and manufacturing zones, easing heavy traffic at bottlenecks like the infamous Silk Board Junction.
Route and Distance – Runs 19.15 km from RV Road to Bommasandra, covering 16 stations.
Major Stops – Includes Silk Board Junction, BTM Layout, Electronic City, and Bommasandra Industrial Area.
IT and Industry Link – Direct connection to top employers such as Infosys, Biocon, and TCS in Electronics City.
Project Cost – Built at an estimated cost of ₹5,056.99 crore.
Ridership Potential – Expected to serve nearly 8 lakh passengers daily, as per PTI.
Traffic Relief – Aimed at reducing congestion, especially at Silk Board Junction.
Operations Start – Services begin August 11, with three trains running every 25 minutes initially.
Early Launch – Originally planned for August 15, but advanced to August 10 after the PM’s request.
Linked Projects – Inauguration will also mark the foundation stone laying of Namma Metro Phase 3, a 44.65-km expansion costing ₹15,611 crore.
Phase 3 Benefits – Expected to benefit 25 lakh residents in southern Bengaluru, improving last-mile connectivity and easing commutes.
With the launch of the Yellow Line and progress on Phase 3, Bengaluru is taking a major step toward reducing traffic chaos and improving urban mobility. Experts believe these projects will significantly cut travel times, boost economic activity, and enhance the city’s liveability.
