Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Omar Abdullah on Wednesday following his swearing-in as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, marking the first elected government in the union territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
In a post on X, Modi stated, “Congratulations to Shri Omar Abdullah Ji on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Wishing him the very best in his efforts to serve the people.”
He emphasised that the Centre would work closely with Abdullah and his team for the progress of Jammu and Kashmir.

The oath of office was administered by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, who welcomed Abdullah as he begins his second term as chief minister. Abdullah is the third generation of the Abdullah family to occupy this significant role, following his grandfather Sheikh Abdullah and father Farooq Abdullah. Alongside Abdullah, five ministers also took the oath of office, including Sakina Masood (Itoo), Javed Dar, Javed Rana, Surinder Choudhary, and Satish Sharma. While Itoo and Dar represent the Kashmir Valley, Rana, Choudhary, and Sharma are from the Jammu region, highlighting a balanced representation within the new government.This transition marks a pivotal moment for Jammu and Kashmir, as Abdullah aims to navigate the challenges facing the region while fostering collaboration with the central government for its development.
