PM Modi congratulates Neeraj Chopra for winning gold in Doha Diamond League

Neeraj Chopra, a javelin thrower, received appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday after taking home the gold medal at the 2023 Wanda Diamond League in Doha.

The Olympic champion recorded a distance of 88.67 m in his first attempt in the men’s javelin throw and secured the first position in the Diamond League. He received congratulations from the prime minister for winning the “first event of the year” and best wishes for the upcoming competitions.”First competition of the year and first position! Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, also praised Neeraj Chopra after the gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics won the Doha Diamond League 2023.

Neeraj missed the action because of an injury, but it appeared like his very first attempt it seemed as if he picked up his form right where he left off. Chopra’s first throw, which was 88.67, was a fantastic way to begin the new season. His first throw was enough to seal the victory for him but he still tried to push ahead.

Chopra made a good start, but it was clearly evident that Chopra was not satisfied despite making a decent start. He was in the lead on the chart, after the first try. Chopra’s second throw resulted  in an 86.04m, maintaining his lead in the charts over Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch, who was able to reach 88.63m, and world champion Anderson Peters, whose best attempt is 85.88m.

Neeraj threw the spear to a distance of 85.47m on his third try. Despite the shortening of the distance from his initial try, he managed to maintain the lead. The thrower from the Czech Republic passed Anderson Peters to take up second place. Neeraj’s fourth attempt resulted in a foul.

Neeraj claimed victory with the distance in his first attempt. The Olympic gold medallist fell short of breaching the 90-meter mark.
