PM Modi Chooses Vivekananda Rock For Meditation After Conclusion Of 2024 Poll Campaign

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to meditate at Vivekananda Rock Memorial in Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu, holds significant symbolism as he concludes the BJP’s Lok Sabha election campaign for 2024. The choice of location resonates with PM Modi’s reverence for Swami Vivekananda, whom he considers a role model, and his association with the Ramakrishna Mission, founded by the spiritual leader.

Swami Vivekananda’s historic swim from the shores of Kanniyakumari to the islet, where he meditated for three days in 1892, has deep spiritual significance. Following in his footsteps, PM Modi will spend time in meditation from May 30 to June 1, marking the end of the BJP’s election campaign.

PM Modi’s selection of Vivekananda Rock underscores the BJP’s strategic focus on South India during the election campaign. With over a third of his total tours in the last three years dedicated to the region, PM Modi’s extensive visits to Tamil Nadu alone underscore the party’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the southern states. His emphasis on Tamil culture and language, along with visits to prominent temples, reflects this concerted outreach.

The southern states, comprising Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, collectively hold significant electoral sway with 131 Lok Sabha seats. Tamil Nadu alone contributes 39 seats to Parliament. PM Modi’s assertion of BJP’s growing influence in the region signals the party’s aspirations for electoral success beyond traditional strongholds.

Preparations for PM Modi’s visit to Vivekananda Rock Memorial are underway, with approximately 2,000 security personnel deployed to ensure smooth proceedings. Despite opposition from the ruling DMK, citing election model code of conduct and tourist season concerns, PM Modi’s spiritual sojourn is poised to mark a moment of introspection and symbolism as the nation awaits the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
