Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the Bihar Assembly election campaign from Karpoorigram on Friday, October 24, 2025. He expressed strong confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership, would achieve a “record-breaking electoral performance.”

By openly backing Nitish Kumar, who leads the Janata Dal (United), Modi settled any speculation over NDA’s leadership in Bihar. His remarks came just a day after the Opposition INDIA bloc officially declared RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as its Chief Ministerial face for the polls.

Modi’s Message: NDA United Under Nitish Kumar

During his address, Modi emphasized unity and stability within the NDA alliance. He praised Nitish Kumar’s governance and assured voters that Bihar’s development journey would continue with renewed energy and commitment.

His statement served as both a show of support for Nitish Kumar and a strategic message to counter the Opposition’s narrative ahead of the elections.

Opposition INDIA Bloc Projects Tejashwi Yadav as CM Face

Meanwhile, the INDIA alliance, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), named Tejashwi Yadav as its Chief Ministerial candidate. The young RJD leader aims to challenge the NDA’s dominance with a campaign centered on employment, education, and social justice.

This move sets the stage for a high-stakes contest between Nitish Kumar’s experienced leadership and Tejashwi’s promise of change.

Mahagathbandhan’s Manifesto Focuses on Police Reform and Law & Order

The RJD-led Mahagathbandhan is preparing to release its common manifesto soon after Chhath Puja next week. According to party sources, the manifesto highlights key governance reforms, including:

  • Depoliticising the police force

  • Transparent appointments for police station in-charges

  • Strengthening law and order mechanisms across Bihar

The Opposition alliance hopes these measures will present a clear alternative to the NDA’s governance model, addressing citizens’ concerns about safety and administrative transparency.

Political Battle Lines Drawn Ahead of Bihar Election

With Modi reaffirming Nitish Kumar’s leadership and Tejashwi Yadav stepping up as the Opposition’s CM face, the Bihar Assembly election is set for a fierce political showdown.

Both alliances NDA and Mahagathbandhan are positioning themselves as the true representatives of Bihar’s future, each promising development, stability, and reform.
