PM Narendra Modi announced the 20th installment of the PM-Kisan plan from Varanasi on August 2, 2025. Farmers received immediate bank account credits totalling thousands of crores. Nevertheless, the payment was not received by many beneficiaries. Several causes may be at play, according to the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

These include land ownership problems, incorrect details, and stricter verification rules. The government has also launched physical verification for flagged accounts. This move comes amid growing misuse of the scheme. Here’s a full breakdown of why your instalment may be delayed, and what you can do about it.

Why Some Farmers Didn’t Receive Installment?

The government has temporarily held back payments in several cases. The Department of Agriculture says these fall under the “exclusion” category of the PM-Kisan guidelines. Officials are now conducting physical verification to confirm eligibility.

Reasons for Withheld Payments

The following are the most typical explanations for why you could not have received your PM Kisan benefits:

  • After-cutoff date land ownership: Farmers who purchased agricultural land after February 1, 2019, are not qualified.
  • Multiple family claims: One or both entries are indicated if the benefit is claimed by the spouse or the parent, and kid.
  • Inaccurate or redundant data: Payments are sometimes denied when Aadhaar, bank, or land records don’t match.
  • eKYC not finished: eKYC is now required. If a farmer’s eKYC is out-of-date or incomplete, payments are withheld.

How to Check Your Payment Status?

There are two simple methods for farmers to check their payment status:

  • Use the Know Your Status (KYS) function on the official PM-Kisan website.
  • Download and use the PM-Kisan Mobile App for real-time updates.

Who Is Not Eligible for PM Kisan?

The scheme excludes several categories by design, such as:

  • All institutional landowners.
  • Current and former holders of constitutional posts.
  • Elected officials like MPs, MLAs, mayors, and district panchayat chiefs.
  • Government workers, both active and retired, who receive pensions of at least ₹10,000.
  • The previous fiscal year’s taxpayers.

The purpose of these exclusions is to guarantee that the ₹6,000 yearly assistance is only given to farmers who are actually in need.

Rising Misuse Triggers Physical Verification

The government is under pressure to clean up the PM-Kisan database because there are more than 11 crore enrolled farmers. Physical confirmation is becoming a crucial filter. Duplicate claims, fraudulent entries, and ineligible beneficiaries sneaking through earlier have all been reported by officials.

According to the Ministry, physical inspections are now necessary to safeguard public expenditures and rebuild confidence. However, this procedure is laborious, aids in identifying abuse and rerouting assistance to legitimate farmers.
