Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, hailed the US Supreme Court’s decision to allow Tahawwur Hussain Rana, convicted for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, to be extradited to India. Goyal credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his relentless efforts to secure justice for the victims of the horrific attack.

Victory for 26/11 Victims

Speaking to ANI, Goyal reflected on the nation’s demand for justice after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that killed 174 people, including 20 security personnel and 26 foreigners. He criticized the UPA government for its “weakness” in dealing with terrorism post-26/11.

“Not just Mumbai, but the entire country was enraged at the terrorists who attacked Mother India. The only demand was that they must be punished severely. It is unfortunate that the government of that time showed weakness and did not take strong steps,” Goyal said.

PM Modi’s Global Diplomacy Lauded

Goyal commended Prime Minister Modi for building strong international relations and securing global support to bring Rana to justice.

“I am very satisfied with Prime Minister Modi’s efforts. His diplomacy has strengthened India’s position on the global stage. The US too assisted India, and with good legal counsel, the process of punishing terrorists is now in its final leg,” he added.

Terming the extradition as a “victory of 140 crore Indians,” Goyal asserted that today India is capable of holding any terrorist accountable.

India’s Strength Against Terrorism

Goyal emphasized how PM Modi’s leadership inspires confidence among Indians, particularly the people of Mumbai.

“This is an important step towards justice for Mumbai. If anyone casts an evil eye, PM Modi will answer them. If Modi is there, then it is possible,” Goyal said.
