PGIMER’s Department of Surgical Gastroenterology celebrated 3rd Founders Day

The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology celebrated its 3rd Founders Day on August 4, 2023, featuring the prestigious Prof. B L Talwar Oration delivered by Dr. Vijay Kumar Mittal from Wayne State University School of Medicine, USA. Dr. Mittal, a PGI alumnus, is renowned for his pioneering surgical work, backed by 250 research papers and 400 presentations. The event also included Dr. Ajith K Siriwardena’s talk on “Personalized Medicine for colorectal cancer spread to the liver” from Manchester, UK.
Additionally, the Department conducted an insightful one-day Surgical workshop, showcasing advanced laparoscopic, robotic, and open procedures for cancers of the Gallbladder, Liver, and Pancreas. Distinguished national and international experts in the HPB surgery domain shared their insights, enriching delegates’ understanding of technical intricacies.
The subsequent one and a half days featured a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on August 5th and 6th, 2023, themed “HPB Malignancy.” This event saw prominent international speakers from the USA, Germany, Japan, Holland, England, Abu Dhabi, and the immediate Past President of E-AHPBA, Dr. Ajith K Siriwardena. Esteemed Indian faculty, including the President, President Elect, and Honorary Secretary of the International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association’s Indian Chapter, as well as the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology, enriched the discourse.
Delving into cutting-edge techniques, the CME addressed Liver Cancer, Gallbladder Carcinoma, and Pancreatic Carcinoma management. Renowned experts discussed the advantages of Laparoscopic and Robotic approaches, and the future potential of Advanced Minimal Incision procedures and liver transplantation. This gathering of eminent leaders furthered the exchange of knowledge in the dynamic field of HPB surgery.
