The Haryana Congress kicked off its electoral campaign for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections to be held in Haryana in 2024 from Radaur in Yamunanagar. Addressing a rally in Radaur, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) coalition with the Jannyak Janata Party (JJP).
At the rally, the former CM promised the legal guarantee of MSP to farmers in the state. “If our government is voted to power, we will give old age pensions of Rs 6,000. Gas cylinders will be provided at Rs 500. We will also implement the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).” Hooda added that plots of land up to 100 yards would also be given to the people.
In addition, Hooda demanded the Haryana government increase the price of sugarcane to Rs 450. He said, “If the government does not do this, then this price hike will be done to benefit farmers after the Congress government comes to power. The voice coming from Radaur will be heard in all of Haryana.” He went on to say, “In 2024, Congress will contest elections with the support of 36 communities and will form the government next year.”
At Wednesday’s rally, Congress leader and former Speaker of the Assembly, Kuldeep Sharma took note of Haryana’s Formation Day. “Today, lamps should have been lit in the state, there should have been light, but instead there is mourning in the hearts of the farmers and youth of Haryana.”
“BJP’s double-engine government has been running in Haryana for nine years but farmers, youth, traders and, employees are all disappointed. There is an atmosphere of despair all around.” Sharma then promised that “This disappointment is going to end soon”.
“Public anger rallies” will be organised in all of Hooda and Chaudhary Udaybhan’s constituencies. An 11-member committee has also been formed by the Haryana Congress State President for the success of these rallies. Former minister Ashok Arora will chair this committee, which also comprises Executive head Jitendra Bhardwaj and four MLAs.
