A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a speeding car in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden area in the early hours of Friday, police officials said.

The accident took place around 2.30 am on the Ring Road near the Marble Market stretch in Rajouri Garden, a busy traffic corridor that witnesses heavy vehicular movement even during late-night hours.

According to police, the unidentified man was crossing or walking along the road when a speeding car struck him with great force, causing fatal injuries on the spot.

“The body has been shifted to the mortuary of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for identification and postmortem examination,” a senior police officer said.

Police said the driver fled the spot immediately after the accident and efforts are underway to identify and trace the vehicle involved in the incident.

Investigators are scanning CCTV camera footage from nearby traffic intersections, commercial establishments and roadside installations to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the direction in which the vehicle escaped.

Officials said forensic and technical teams are also examining evidence collected from the accident site, including debris and tyre marks, to help identify the make and model of the car.

A case has been registered under relevant sections related to rash and negligent driving causing death, police said.

The incident has once again raised concerns regarding speeding and late-night road safety violations in the national capital, particularly on major arterial roads such as Ring Road where pedestrian movement remains high despite fast-moving traffic.

Police have appealed to witnesses or anyone with information regarding the vehicle to come forward and assist in the investigation.
