A special train from Jhansi to Prayagraj was attacked with stones at Harpalpur station after passengers found the doors locked. Videos shared on social media show the attackers throwing stones at the train, breaking its windows, while passengers inside screamed in panic.

In one video, a passenger can be heard explaining that the train left for Prayagraj from Jhansi at approximately 8 pm. “The train has reached Harpalpur and the attackers made it come to a halt. They broke the windows and pelted stones inside. They targeted passengers. There are women and children on board.”

This special train was arranged for the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, attracting travelers from across the country. Many passengers aboard were headed to the religious event.

According to reports, the passengers had been waiting at Harpalpur, which is two hours from Jhansi, but were left frustrated when they found the doors locked while trying to board the train. The crowd reacted angrily by throwing stones at the train and breaking its windows, which raised an alarm inside the train.

The incident has been confirmed by Harpalpur police station in-charge Pushpak Sharma, who said that the attack happened when the train reached around 2 am.

A number of passengers traveling to Prayagraj were waiting at the station. When they found that the doors had been locked, the passengers grew worried and began to create a disturbance because their train was about to leave. “They got irritated and made a ruckus,” Singh said. He said railway police were deployed on the spot, which cooled down the situation and let the passengers travel.

“We want to appeal to the passengers to cooperate to ensure a smooth journey to Prayagraj and to prevent a repeat of such incidents. We are running special trains for this,” he said.
