Paramilitary personnel along with a senior officer of the Delhi Police has been deployed at Tilak Bridge in the national capital ahead of the upcoming G20 summit on September 9 and 10.
According to the officials, the security has been deployed as a precautionary move as Khalistani elements had threatened to deface properties in the area.
The Delhi Police have also started conducting vehicle checking at various locations across the national capital in view of the upcoming G20 summit. Surprise checks were conducted at India Gate and other parts of the city between Monday night and the early hours on Tuesday.
Police personnel were seen conducting thorough inspections by halting vehicles. Earlier in the previous week, suspected activists of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), a front for the separatist Khalistan Group, defaced several metro stations with pro-Khalistan slogans, fuelling security concerns ahead of the G20 Summit.
After this, two persons from Punjab were detained in connection with pro-Khalistan graffiti and slogans painted at more than five metro stations in Delhi on August 27, officials said. Meanwhile, all the government officials are on alert mode as the G20 week commences, considering a warning circulated earlier from a designated wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) about any “misleading, fake, and counterfeit” emails being circulated by ill elements.
The 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi will be a culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil society.
