The Padma Awards, one of India’s highest civilian honors, were announced by the Central government on the eve of Republic Day. These prestigious awards recognize exceptional achievements across diverse fields, highlighting contributions to public service.
The awards are classified into three categories:
- Padma Vibhushan: Exceptional and distinguished service.
- Padma Bhushan: Distinguished service of a high order.
- Padma Shri: Distinguished service in various fields.
In 2025, the government has conferred a total of 139 awards, comprising 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri recipients.

Significance of the Padma Awards
The Padma Awards seek to recognize exceptional contributions to society and the nation. The President of India presents these awards at a grand ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, usually in March or April.
