A man is said to have confined his ill mother within their residence in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district and departed for Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj with his spouse, children, and in-laws, according to police reports on Thursday.

Authorities freed the 65-year-old woman from a Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) quarter located in Subhash Nagar colony, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ramgarh police station, on Wednesday.

Survived on Flattened Rice, Neighbors Alerted Authorities

The aged woman had been confined in the home since Monday, surviving solely on flattened rice (Chura). Her pleas for assistance due to hunger drew the attention of neighbors, who subsequently uncovered her situation, according to police officials.

Daughter Informed Police, Lock Was Broken for Rescue

Ramgarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Parmeshwar Prasad verified the occurrence, declaring, “The elderly woman, recognized as Sanju Devi, was locked by her son, Akhilesh Kumar, in his CCL quarter since Monday. Kumar, along with his family, journeyed to Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. She was rescued on Wednesday after her daughter alerted police. ”

Officials also observed that Akhilesh Kumar works for CCL. Another police officer remarked that Kumar asserted he had made all essential provisions for his mother’s nourishment and hydration prior to departing for Prayagraj.

Daughter Rushed to Help After Neighbor’s Call

Chandni Devi, the daughter of the woman, who resides approximately five kilometers away in Kahubera, stated that she was notified about her mother’s predicament by neighbors via telephone.

“Police rescued her after forcing the lock. The neighbors quickly provided her with food. She was also administered medications and taken to CCL hospital,” she conveyed to reporters.

Son Employed in CCL on Compassionate Grounds

As per Ms. Devi, her brother Akhilesh Kumar obtained his position at CCL on compassionate grounds and is currently employed as a shovel operator in the Argada region of Ramgarh district.
