Over 3,500 tourists rescued by Indian Army from Sikkim after landslip

According to a statement made on Saturday, the Indian Army helped over 3,500 visitors who were trapped in Chungthang in North Sikkim because of landslides and obstructions.

According to the press statement, the Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang valleys had strong, torrential rainfall on Friday. “As of June 17, 2023, 3 p.m., more than 2000 travellers have been saved. The announcement stated that efforts were being made to restore road connectivity while tourists were still being evacuated.

“Troops of Trishakti Corps, Indian Army and personnel of Border Roads Organisation swung into action and worked overnight in heavy rains and inclement weather to create a temporary crossing over the flash flood area to facilitate the rescue of tourists,” the release stated.

It further stated, “Tents are being set up and medical aid posts have been set up. The tourists will be provided with all assistance until the route is cleared for their further journey.”

Additionally, the tourists received assistance in crossing the river, hot meals, tents, and medical care.

The Indian Army is proactive in helping tourists and the local populace while securing the border in the Super High-Altitude regions of the Himalayas.
